Factors influencing the price

Distance
The price per km decreases with distance. A short trip costs proportionally more than a long-distance one.
Number of pallets
The unit price decreases with volume. LTL (1-5 pallets) includes fixed handling fees (pickup, hub transit, delivery). Groupage (6-15 pallets) offers economies of scale. Beyond 16 pallets, rates approach full truckload pricing.
Weight and dimensions
A standard pallet (80x120, 500 kg max) has a base rate. Oversized or heavy pallets are subject to surcharges.
Type of goods
Dangerous goods (ADR), refrigerated, or fragile items require special equipment and incur additional costs.
Delivery time
Express delivery (D+1) costs 30 to 50% more than standard delivery (D+2/3).
Seasonality
Prices increase during peak demand periods (year-end, back-to-school) and decrease during off-peak periods.

Frequently asked questions

What is the average cost to transport a pallet in France?

The average price for a standard pallet ranges from EUR 70 for a short trip (< 200 km) to EUR 350 for a long-distance trip (> 800 km) for LTL shipments. Prices depend on distance, volume, type of goods, and handling fees (pickup, hub, delivery).

How can I reduce my pallet transport costs?

Consolidate your shipments, plan ahead, negotiate framework contracts, optimise pallet loading, and use a platform like Affretium to compare offers.

What is the difference between groupage and full truckloads?

LTL (Less Than Truckload) covers shipments of 1 to 5 pallets, shared with other shippers on the same truck. Groupage (6-15 pallets) provides economies of scale. A full truckload (26-33 pallets) uses an entire truck at a flat rate — it is more cost-effective per pallet, but the price cannot be calculated by simply dividing the truck cost by the number of pallets.

Do prices include loading/unloading?

Generally no. Loading is the sender's responsibility and unloading is the recipient's responsibility, unless otherwise agreed in the transport contract.

How can I get a pallet transport quote?
